Many of us used to have oily skin as a problem. Sebum is produced by the skin to protect and moisturize it. Oily skin is an advantage too since it slows down the face of producing wrinkles and thus, many oily-skin people tend to look younger than their age. But if the skin looks excessively oily, it would create a bad image of that particular person. House remedies could solve this problem.

Oily skin is characterized by shine and enlarged pores. On account of the high levels of sebum, the skin has a greasy shine and tendency to break out into acne as oily skin tends to attract more dirt and dust. Oily skin can be a result of heredity or hormone levels.

Diet for Oily Skin

  • Take less sugar, fluid and salt. Take more protein instead.
  • Take plenty of leafy green vegetables and fresh fruits.
  • Take necessary vitamins, iron and similar substances(Buckwheat, black beans and whole rice are excellent to supply the body with iron and rejuvenate pate skin).
  • Drink plenty of quality water to get hydrated and flush out toxins.
  • Take less fat in your diet. Avoid pork and fried and highly seasoned foods. Consume no animal fats, or heat-processed vegetable oils.
  • Avoid sugar, chocolate, and junk food and soft drinks.

Home remedy for oily skin

  • Fruit acids have shown a positive effect in oily skin treatment. They remove oil from the skin and yet retain the moisture. Home remedies such as cucumber juice, lime juice and yogurt would be recommended. A mask consisting of Aloe Vera, crushed strawberries and yogurt is a good choice for oily skin. Keep it on for about 15 minutes and rinse off with warm water.

Some simple home remedies for oily skin:

  1. Puree 1 egg white, 1-tsp. Lemon juice, 1-tsp. Mint and cucumber and apply it on the face for about 15 minutes.
  2. A Puree of fresh tomatoes works well on oily skin.
  3. A facemask of tomato, lemon juice and oats must be applied on the cheeks, forehead and chin. Scrub your face with warm water. This home remedy for oily skin is ideal for blemishes.
  4. A clay mask is yet another home remedy for oily skin since it draws out excess oil.

Acne Treatment : Whiteheads

Whiteheads are tiny and white raised spots and are caused by the accumulation of hardened sebum or oil in the pores of the skin. Whiteheads are caused by the accumulation of hardened sebum or oil, in the pores of the skin. Whiteheads are tiny cysts which are formed due to the improper elimination of oil secreted from the grease glands. They have the appearance of hard white spots and they appear on any part of the body, but Whiteheads and blackheads are most commonly seen on the areas around the face especially around the nose, cheeks, temples and forehead.

The exact cause of Whitehead or Blackhead Acne is unknown, However many doctors and scientists believe that they result from several related factors. One main factor is the increased production of androgens (male hormones) in both boys and girls during puberty. These hormones in turn cause the sebaceous glands to enlarge and produce more sebum (oil). The oil is secreted to the surface of your skin through tiny pores. Blackhead and Whitehead acne is the direct result if these pores becoming clogged with dead skin and infected by bacteria.

Below are some tips to deal with whiteheads:

  • Drink plenty of water and fresh fruits and fruit juices.
  • Apply a paste of fresh fenugreek (methi) leaves in water over the face every night and washed with warm water in the morning for preventing pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, dryness, and wrinkles.
  • Mix Cornstarch With Vinegar, make a paste and apply on the area for 15-30 minutes; wash off with washcloth and warm water, this helps to get rid whiteheads.
  • Apply a paste of fresh methi (fenugreek) leaves over the face every night for 10-15 minutes and washed with warm water. This will prevent pimples, blackheads, and wrinkles.
  • Take 50 ml. of raw (not boiled) milk and mix a pinch of salt and two teaspoonful of lime juice in it. Use it as a cleansing lotion. It helps to clean the deep pores of skin and make your skin free from blackheads and whiteheads.
  • Make a paste of roasted & powdered pomegranate, mix it with fresh lime juice and apply over whiteheads. This helps to get rid of whiteheads.
  • You can a facial steamer or take hot water in a pan, cover your head with a towel and let your face receive a light steam. This will help in losing whiteheads and cleaning the pores of the skin.
  • Make a paste of roasted & powdered pomegranate skin with fresh lime juice and apply over boils, pimple, blackheads and whiteheads.
  • Apply grated potatoes as poultice to treat skin blemishes, pimples, whiteheads.
  • Mix 1 tablespoon groundnut oil with 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice to prevent formation of whiteheads and pimples.
  • Make a paste of sandalwood with rose water. Apply on affected area. Wash it off after 20-30 minutes with lukewarm water.
  • Mix beauty grains (commercially available, can be made by mixing almond meal - powdered almonds and honey) and skin tonic (any commercially available acid-free and alcohol-free skin tonic) and rub regularly on the affected areas to dislodge them.
